• Remember the printed-out assessment tools? Good! Take a quick look at them so you know what sort of info you are looking for.
• Now just go back to sentinel city, and start driving. Have fun! Stop the bus to take notes on your assessment tools, and then start it again to move on
• You will see two icons on the left, those are your demographic datasheets. Download the one that has the demographics of the whole city, AND the 4 neighborhoods. That one single PDF will have all you need for the demographic assessment.
• Continue to drive so you can collect info for the other assessment sections.
• You don’t have to answer all the questions on the Windshield survey, use those as ideas as to what to look out for
• Wherever you see an INFORMATION sign, click that. It will open in a new browser giving you information about the agencies.
• Take handwritten notes on your assessment tools that you printed
• Once you finish navigating the city and have all the data you need, start writing the paper using the template AND cross-reference it to the directions
OTHER TIPS
• Imagine you want to describe the city to me, who wants to move there. Tell me all that I need to know from the aspects of physical description, safety, demographics and resources (scavenger hunt)
• When you come up with the top 3 problems in the city, make sure you go to the HP2020 link and compare those to a goal. Example: A large percentage of the residents do not have health insurance. Healthy People (HP) 2020 has a goal for 100% of the population to have medical insurance (Office of ………,2020). And put that goal’s APA reference on the reference page (same with all 3 problems, so you will have 3 HP2020 references on the reference page. The template will show you how to reference and cite HP2020).
