The purpose of this assessment is to provide you with the opportunity to engage in reflective practice. This
assessment is aimed to assess a student’s ability to demonstrate knowledge of written communication
skills and its application.
By using the S.O.A.P.S method (https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/courses/resources/soapstone-strategyreading-and-writing) and rhetorical approaches (ethos, pathos, logos) to guide your analysis, determine the
effectiveness of an organization’s written communication (i.e. press release, memo, official public
statement, CEO statement, etc.) in response to the current pandemic of COVID-19. An organization’s
written communication, most of the time, can be found on their official website. However, they can also be
found through other channels; such as news websites or social media (Facebook, YouTube, Blogs etc..).
The document you chose should be substantial in content to form an effective analysis.
Where to start:
Your first step is to identify your organization and its written communication in regards COVID-19. This canbe an organization that you want to work for in the future or a company that interest you. (*** For Me It Is

sure to identify the organization in your paper and what type of written communication you are analyzing.

Assignment -Written Communication Analysis:

communication about COVID-19 and their response to the pandemic.
Consider the following:
Method of communication: Was the method of communication appropriate for the message and why?
Design elements: How did the design elements support the message?
Rhetorical approach(Ethos, Pathos, and Logos): Which approach was used and how did it impact the
Based upon your analysis of the written communication, identify two key communication issues that you
believe requires development or improvement.
Explain why they are an issue. Use your references and resources to support your argument.
For your conclusion, develop at least two recommendations of development or improvement.
What changes would you make? And why?
HINT: Make sure you identify the Subject, Objective, Audience, Purpose, and Speaker (SOAPS) in your
paper. Work this into your analysis. The introduction of your paper should be a short paragraph on the
background of the organization you selected.
Formatting Guidelines: (IMPORTANT!)
Have a minimum 2 pages in length, no more than 3. The length of your paper should be appropriate to the
effectiveness of your analysis.

You do NOT need an abstract.
The written document you analyze should be an Appendix (Links to an external site.) . Just copy and paste
the web link/URL onto the Appendix page or the original document. This will help guide the grading of your

Must have at minimum of 3 references. This may include the course text, the organization’s website, and
