Objective:
Students will discuss the meaning of the ‘nurse-patient relationship’ and ‘communication’ in relation to the
nursing profession and identify connections between these two concepts and the characteristics of nursing.
Students will demonstrate beginning competency in the use of academic writing style and APA formatting.
Assignment:
Consider the assigned readings, class videos, and class discussion in relation to the nurse-patient
relationship, communication and the characteristics of the nursing profession.
Write a one to two-page paper in response to the following prompts:
What does the phrase “nurse-patient relationship” mean?
What role does communication play in the nurse-patient relationship?
Link your discussion to one or more of the characteristics of nursing that have been discussed this
semester.
