You will create an analysis of a musical text (score, recording, album, performance, etc.) of your choice
(any genre). This should involve both a close analysis of the text to identify harmonic, structural, tonal,
performance or production characteristics and a contextual description of the work (its origins, genre,
period, place, and any relevant insights into connections outside the work itself). Choose a method of
analysis appropriate to the musical text chosen; e.g. a harmonic analysis, a timbral analysis, an analysis
focusing on rhythm, a semiotic analysis – choose the tool which helps you to reveal the form or structure of
the music.
You should include:
A copy of (or working link to) the music you are analysing.
A 500-word written contextual analysis
A graphic analysis – this could include annotated score or other graphic interpretation of the music
