WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT IN STR4040 LEADERSHIP IN ORGANIZATIONS
The exam consists of 2 assignments. Please answer both.
1. You are asked to provide a research-based advice for first-line managers in a large IT-based, knowledge-intensive company. This company is situated in an urban, multinational area of your choice (please specify the country and city of your choice where you wish to place the company, e.g. Oslo, Stockholm, Paris, New York or alike. You are fully free to choose the location). ‘Always at the edge of innovation’ is company’s mantra, as they continually strive to beat their competitors with new, innovative product designs.
Please discuss – based on the concepts, theories and empirical results presented in our readings: What is the ‘best way to lead’ for the first-line managers in question?
2. You first task as a newly hired management advisor is to provide research-based advice for how to lead teams towards their best performance. Please provide this advice based on the concepts, theories and empirical results presented in our readings, while using the framework of the figure 1.2 ‘Causal relationships among the primary types of leadership variables’ (Yukl & Gardner, 2020:32, also reconstructed in our slides, see for example slide 5 in ‘Summing up’ from the 3rd seminar). Discuss your recommendations.
The concluding part of your answer to this assignment should contain – amongst other content – the model based on figure 1.2 mentioned above, NB! with specified content in each box/circle (e.g. specific traits and skills in the first box that you will suggest as important based on you r arguments; specific relevant leader behaviors in the second box, etc.)
