Course: family health communication
You will watch the Thin documentary attached to this Module
https://www.aetv.com/shows/intervention/season-12/episode-7
This episode of Intervention tells the story of Amanda and her family. Amanda is a 31-year-old woman who
abandoned her plan to become a teacher due to alcohol and heroin addiction. While you watch identify
important FPs (functional partner?) for Amanda. Consider how these FPS are helpful and unhelpful in the
fight to get Amanda off drugs.
1. Which FPs try to control Amanda’s behavior and get her to stop using drugs? How do they do that?
2. Which FPs enable Amanda’s behavior? How do they do that?
3. Which FPs demonstrate inconsistent communication by both enabling/nurturing and controlling/trying to
stop her behaviors? What do you think is motivating their use of intermittent nurturing and control?
4. What do you think finally made Amanda agree to go to treatment?
