In a quest for a high-reliability organization, practicing its principles 1) preoccupation with failure, (2) reluctance to simplify observations, (3) sensitivity to operations, (4) commitment to resilience, and (5) deference to expertise (Weick & Sutcliffe, 2015) are ways to improve patient safety. For example, during the COVID-19 peak and surge with many unknowns, the nurse must be resilient and adjust and be flexible with the never-ending changes of protecting oneself with the use of personal protective equipment. In addition, nurses must be sensitive to the operations as access is adjusted based on the surge of patients entering the hospital, staffing is affected, and new units of even caring for patients in hallways are created.
The planned DNP project will increase awareness of potential safety issues since lack of communication is the cause of healthcare errors (Starmer et al., 2017). Doing huddles and having the standardized communication/huddle tool as identified and advocated by The Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI) that safety huddles solve team communication (Institute of Medicine. (2022).

SECOND SAMPLE WRITTEN BY ANOTHER STUDENT
According to the Joint Commissions (TJC) 2022 Hospital National Patient Safety Goals here are three ways to improve patient safety. Identify patients correctly by use at least two ways to identify patient such as name and date of birth (TJC, 2022). Use medications safely by making sure medications are tabled, that they reach the correct patient, and that extra care is taken for patients who received blood thinning medication (TJC, 2022). And lastly, prevent infections by using hand cleaning guidelines from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention or the World Health Organization (TJC, 2022).
My DNP project will increase awareness of the potential safety issues of SSIs by increasing transparency throughout the organization. Providing the data about SSIs in patients who undergo C-sections will display the gap in infection prevention this facility has and hopefully push for change throughout the entire facility. In the end, I am hopeful this project will increase positive outcomes not only for patient who have C-sections but all patients who have surgical operations at this facility.

Above are 2 samples written by other students on a different DNP project to guide the writer.
Question:
Discuss and identify three ways you as a provider can improve safety and how will your DNP project increase the awareness of potential patient safety issues.
My DNP Project
“The purpose of my DNP quality improvement project is to improve the knowledge of medical-surgical staff nurses related to the accurate assessments and appropriate utilization of validated assessment tools to decrease the incidence of Pressure Injury by implementing focused re-education and training of the Braden Scale assessment tool, in concert with educating staff on the negative effects of Microclimate, and its impact on the development of Pressure Injury.”
The interventions will be piloted on a 36-bed medical-surgical unit.
