A primary course objective is to demonstrate knowledge of biological processes that form
the basis of all human behavior. Roughly every 24 hours the circadian rhythm regulates
our sleep-wake cycle. This assignment will help you demonstrate your knowledge of the
biological processes associated with sleep.
1. Imagine someone asks you, “why do we sleep or dream?” Select either a theory of
sleep or dreaming and describe the theory in your own words.
2. Now imagine someone asks you, “what is happening in the brain when we sleep?”
Select a brain region or specific neurotransmitter and describe its role in sleep.
3. I recognize that demonstrating your knowledge can happen in a variety of ways. You
may enter written responses directly in the text editor or upload a file (doc, pdf). You
can draw your own graphic clearly showing steps 1 and 2 of this task and upload
pictures (jpg). You can create your own media file describing the process. Please
practice academic integrity and use your own words or drawings.
