Task 1 – Business Case (1500 words)

Explore an existing process or disruptive use that could be impacted by the
introduction of AR technologies. There are two angles that this task can be
There are innumerable processes in business that are inefficient or have
limited effectiveness that could be improved by the introduction of
technology. An example of this would be the maintenance and manufacturing
of motor vehicles. Augmented reality enables operatives to improve the
current process to reduce errors and speed up the current processes.
In some cases an entirely new use or activity can appear from the introduction of
new technology. A good example of this is the release of Pokémon Go in 2016, it
changed the face of mobile gaming with the introduction of using the physical
environment as part of the playing space. This made monumental changes in the
way people play and perceive games.
Structure of report
Use the concept document that you created in the lab sessions to help you to
structure the argument for your proposed AR system.
In the introduction you should set out the current state of play with regard to the
situation that your proposal should impact on. State what currently works well and
what areas there are for improvement.
Implementation of proposed AR use
In this section you should state what the proposed system will do and what
advantage it will bring. What requirements are there for your new proposed system,
what changes would be required?

Complete an AR application for Android that can scan for flat surfaces and place
anchored 3D objects in the environment.
Create a marker image
Students must create a marker object in an image manipulation software that
utilises transparency. This marker should be placed when the device recognises a
flat surface to show when it is possible to place the 3d object.
Create a 3d Model
Use a 3d modelling software to create a 3d object to be placed in the scene.
Use a game engine to create an .apk file for Android that includes all of the features
