
This assignment will be about Piaget’s stage theory of cognitive development in Unit 10. These stages are covered in the online text on pages 145-146 and in
the Unit 10 powerpoint notes on slides 5-6. Your assignment will be to explain each of the four stages and talk about the landmark cognitive events that
happen during each one.
Part 1: Name & define each stage with examples. For each of the four stages, tell me what behaviors and thought processes occur and give an example of
how a child thinks/behaves during each stage. Your answer should include at least 2-3 sentences per stage. (4pts.)
Part 2: Define & explain the three major cognitive landmarks: object permanence, theory of mind, and conservation. Give an example of how a child thinks
and behaves if they have achieved this landmark. Also tell me how they think and behave if they have not achieved this landmark. At what stage does each
landmark occur? You answer should include at least 2-3 sentences per landmark. (4pts.)
Part 3 (extra credit): Define & explain the four attachment styles. How does a baby with each of the four styles respond when their caregiver leaves the child
with a stranger and how does a child react when caregiver returns? What should adult relationships look like for children as they age with each style? (3pts.)
