You need to provide data and facts to get the conversation rolling. Most of you made a good start, but it is important that you start practicing how to ask for what is fair and what you need and what you deserve. Please go back through your submission and make sure your letter contains at a minimum:
1. Why the experiences you have had to date will help you hit the ground running. You are not an entry-level employee. Be specific. In other words, why should they want to give you more $$?
2. What you found in terms of comparable salaries at other companies in the same geographic area.
3. If they can’t raise salaries perhaps they could offer a signing bonus and/or moving and relo expenses. Remember, you are broke and it’s expensive to set up in a new place…security deposits, household items…
