Reading assignment Week 2
Begin by reading the assigned text in full (Links to an external site.), without annotating on Hypothesis. Your Hypothesis contributions should be made only
after you’ve read it through once on your own.
It’s a good idea to read/watch “How to Use Hypothesis” first (it’s short) if you have not used Hypothesis in a previous class. Then, please contribute at least
three original annotations by Friday and another three annotations (original or replies to others) by Sunday. Each annotation is worth 5 points for a total of 30
points. You are totally welcome to contribute more if there is more, you’d like to say (although additional posts will not result in extra credit).
Here are the minimum standards for an acceptable annotation:
50-100 words (please honor the maximum as well as the minimum — annotations that are too long will make it difficult to read through everyone’s
contributions).
Annotations should be written in complete sentences in paragraph form and edited for grammar, spelling, and punctuation (use Grammarly for online editing
if you don’t want to have to copy and paste from an editing program).
The content of your annotations should be substantive and analytical. You can ask questions, but they should be more nuanced and complex than “I wonder
why she wrote that here.” We want to see you engaging with the text in meaningful ways.
Your annotation should demonstrate a deep reading of the text, rather than something a person would write if they were trying to cut corners by choosing a
couple of paragraphs at random and trying to figure out what was going on without understanding the text as a whole.
