Topic 1
1. How can care managers effect future change in the health care system? Be specific.
As the healthcare field moves into a more advanced technology, case managers are also adapting to these changes. For example, as COVID-19 hit, we learned to depend on telehealth technology as the main mode of care. This allowed case managers to treat and continue care with their patients, while practicing social distancing. Digital communication and technologies and remote monitoring services are also helpful in today’s healthcare system. Case managers are able to provide services such as synchronized communication, gathering important data, and apply videoconferencing. Today, as the pandemic comes to a halt, telehealth is here to stay. We saw a lot of benefits that came with these innovative technologies. It has effectively promoted triage services and reduced unnecessary utilization of resources. Moreover, this can eventually enhance and change the future of case management practice, such as remote care coordination and the timely facilitation of health and social services, which can result to optimal consumer health status and outcomes (Tahan, 2019).
Topic 2
1. Discuss the meaning and policy implications of the following statement: quality care is cost-effective care. Be specific.
As the United States healthcare costs continues to rise, medical organizations are trying to find ways to provide a cost-effective care without compromising the care of patients. One way they thought of is to utilize Nurse Practitioners (NPs) at their maximum capabilities. Due to their diverse skills set, studies have shown that NPs are capable of providing care as good as physicians, but at a lower cost. According to the data gathered from U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, a 6 % to 7% decrease in total care costs after preventive care was provided by nurse practitioners and physician assistants. NPs authoritative and leadership skills can make healthcare services more cost-effective for patients. Additionally, some parts of the world have shortages in physicians, therefore NPs are taking over the primary care provider role in some parts of the world (Norwich University, n.d.).
