Olaro Hospital Graduate Nurse Program
About us
Olaro hospital is a 400 bed hospital in the Norther suburbs of Olaro ciy within close proximity to the Western ring road and public transport. We serve the multicultural communities of the suburbs a growth corridor of Olaro. Population growth in our local government area has seen significant expansion of services of the hospital. We provide services across the lifespan from maternity to aged care and palliative care. Speciality services include a 24 hour Emergency Department, 16 bed Intensive Care unit and 10 bed Coronary care unit. We have 10 dialysis chairs and 5 operating theatres. Day surgery and endoscopy services are available onsite along with two acute inpatient mental health units. Inpatient areas range across general medicine, respiratory, endocrinology, paediatrics and neurology. Surgical services include burns, thoracic surgery, renal surgery and vascular surgery. These services are supported by rehabilitation and community services for acute, sub-acute and mental health.

Our programs
We offer a graduate nurse program at 0.8 EFT for 53 weeks commencing in mid February 2023. We have a second smaller intake in June 2023. We are accepting applications from graduates who apply via computer match as well as from international applicants who are not eligible for the computer match process. Please indicate in your cover letter whether you prefer a general graduate position or a mental health graduate position. We accept 63 general graduates and 23 Mental health (MH) graduates who will undertake a 6 month rotation in a mental health inpatient area. General graduate nurses at Olaro hospital are rotated through two rotations of six months duration in either a medical or surgical unit with some graduates selected to undertake one rotation in a speciality area (MH graduates in the MH unit) instead of either the medical or surgical rotation. Graduates will attend 3 compulsory study days where they will have the opportunity to undertake appropriate professional education relevant to the development of new nurses. 5 super numery days are offered at the beginning of each rotation and graduates are supported by a team of clinical educators who are available Monday – Friday.
Employment conditions
Graduates are employed under 53 week fixed term contracts. At the conclusion of the graduate nurse program (GNP) graduate will be able to apply for vacant ongoing positions available within the hospital. The Nurses EBA guides all employment decisions and conditions
How to apply
Graduates should attend one of the information evenings on May 20th or May 30th to learn more about our program and hospital. Please provide a cover letter addressing the hospital values and specifically identifying why you are applying to Olaro hospital. Please include whether you are applying for the General or MH graduate program or wish to be considered for both. The Cover letter should not exceed one page and should be written in at least 11 font. Attach your CV outlining relevant clinical experience as a student nurse, including clinical placement experience, skills developed and transferable skills from previous experience or employment. You must provide two (2) clinical referees who have seen you practice as a nursing student. The CV should not exceed 3 pages.

You need to present your edited improved cover letter in one page and then your reflections in the following pages.

Selection
Graduates who meet the requirements of the application process will be contacted for interview. We anticipate interviews in August 2023 and notifying applicants of the outcome on the computer match release date.
